Understanding the Liturgy - Go Forth!

Have you ever felt that the Mass ends too abruptly? After receiving the sacrificed Body and Blood of Christ in Holy Communion, we have precious few moments to catch our breath, and then we stand to pray briefly, and listen to some announcements. Then we’re blessed and dismissed. I think most of us who believe in the reality of the Real Presence of Christ may be tempted to wonder why we are told to leave so soon.

There is a logic to this rather sudden sending forth. Receiving Holy Communion is a communal act; we can’t just see it as our own personal privilege. And there are two dimensions to this communal relationship.
